Woman and two cats rescued from sheltered housing fire

NewsCat Rescue NewsMonday 20 February 2012

A woman and her two cats had to be rescued from her Edinburgh flat after a fire broke out in the bedroom.
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called to the second-floor flat, part of the Woodthorpe sheltered housing complex on Redford Road, at 8.48pm on Sunday.
Fire crews spent 45 minutes tackling the blaze using six breathing apparatus and a hose reel.
The 64-year-old woman was treated on the scene before she was taken to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital for smoke inhalation and burns.
The two cats are now being cared for by the Scottish SPCA.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire Service confirmed that no other properties in the 12-flat complex had been damaged, and that residents had been reassured by fire crews.
