Stray Cats – What to Know

Articlegeneral cat adviceFriday 20 May 2011
Stray cats can be a pain if they keep coming to your door or living in your garden. Instead of moaning to your neighbours this article will give you some ideas on how you could do something about it

    Keeping Stray Cats Away

  • Avoiding the fact you have a problem with stray cats is a bad idea, like anything you should take action and do something about it.

  • Keep stray cats to a minimum by encouraging people to have their pet cats spayed or neutered. It is archaic to think that it is taking their ‘manhood’ all neutering does is prevents unwanted litters.

  • Get your local tom cats neutered, they can be caught, fixed and released back into the wild within a couple of days.

  • If you have a litter of stray kittens then try your best to find homes for them where they can be looked after. If you do not do this then you will find that the kittens will grow up and have unwanted litters of their own; adding to your stray cat problems.

  • Work with local animal shelters as they will see you are trying to do a positive thing.

  • Do not leave garage doors full of stuff open. Cats love to breed in garages and under sheds etc. make sure you block up or keep closed any gaps that might be suitable for looking after kittens.

  • If you do not like stray cats in your garden then you can plant rue, cats hate the smell of rue and will keep well away.
