Articlegeneral cat adviceThursday 07 April 2011
Cat urine can be really smelly and ruin your furnishings and carpet. To prevent this, it is up to an owner to stop a cat urinating in the wrong places. A cat urinates wherever he wants unless you stop him. To learn how to stop a cat urinating on the carpet, see the following tips.

    You Will Need:

    • Carpet cleaner
    • Litter box
    • Spray bottle
    • Vinegar water

    Cat Urine on Carpets

    • First, clean your carpet thoroughly using a good carpet cleaning shampoo. This will remove odours from the carpet.

    • Ensure that the litter box is not blocked by anything, or in a place where plenty of people are often around. Most cats prefer to wee with nobody watching. This means if there are people near the litter box they will choose to go somewhere else. This will leave you with cat urine where you do not want it.

    • Whenever you find a new cat urine spot, spray the area with a vinegar and water solution (90% water, 10% vinegar). This smell will stop cat urinating in this area again.

    • When you see the cat urinates somewhere inappropriate, take action. Let him know its wrong by shouting and spray him with water. This should make the cat associate bad experiences to the cat urinate action.

    • If these measures do not prove effective, try re-locating the litter box as it may be an indication that he does not like the current position.
