A pet collar is one of the most important ways that you can take protective measures to ensure your cat’s safety and health. Not only does a kitten collar identify a cat and its home details, it also provides them with a unique look. There are various different styles of cat collar available, and these can be tricky to get your cat used to at the start. See the following tips on putting a pet collar on your cat.

    •    Make sure you buy a kitten collar that is appropriate for a young cat. Larger sized cat collars will be too large for a small kitten’s neck. It is also important to choose one that has a safety breakaway feature. This allows the kitten to break free and escape to safety if the cat collar gets caught or trapped on something.

    •    Attach the name of your kitten and your home phone number to the kitten collar. This means that if the cat goes missing, the person who finds it can contact you and get you reunited.

    •    Place the cat collar around the kitten’s neck and adjust it so that there is enough room for you to be able to put two fingers between the collar and the neck. It is too tight if you cannot fit these fingers in and this is dangerous for the cat. More than two fingers space means the kitten collar is too loose and will probably fall off.

    •    At first, the kitten will not like having cat collars on. However, with some gentle persuasion and perseverance, you will be able to successfully place a kitten collar on.
