    How to play with cats?

Articlegeneral cat adviceTuesday 26 July 2011

Playing with your cat is an important part of maintaining their health and your bond with them. You and your cat, does not matter weather is an outdoor cat or indoor feline, will definitely enjoy every moment spent together. Also young kittens and adult cats are both stimulated by the same sort of games, although kittens are more likely to get started playing with you.

Cat-related play is almost entirely about simulating behaviour associated with hunting as cats have a strong instinctual desire to stalk and kill their prey. That is why you should first of all pick up the right toys for your cat. Remember that using your hands might not be a good idea if you want to stimulate a hunting behaviour! Your hands should be associated by your cat with petting and feeding. To find a proper toy for your cat, it is not necessary to go shopping. Your kitten might have a lot of fun with simple piece of paper or a ping-pong ball or any other object that moves easily and makes a bit of noise.

Be careful though with objects that your cat might swallow: strings, elastic bands etc. It is recommended that you do not let your cat to play with those toys unattended. Although cats are thought not to play like dogs, there are many nice games to play with your feline.

Two play sessions a day would be fantastic for both you and your cat. If your cat doesn't feel like playing the first time, don't get discouraged. Just keep trying!
