Cat urine is one of the worst smells you will come across and there is no way you will want it in your house. You cannot cover up the smell you must get the cat urine off completely or your cat will keep going back to that spot. Hopefully this article will give you some techniques on how to get rid of that foul cat urine smell.

How to Banish the Smell of Cat Pee from Your Home

  • Start removing the cat urine with water.

  • Next you need to blot the wet patch with kitchen roll.

  • Mix up a solution which is three parts water to one part vinegar. Saturate the part of the carpet that the cat pee is on. Then dry thoroughly again with more kitchen towel.

  • The next stage in getting rid of cat urine is to sprinkle the offending spot with baking powder.

  • Mix three teaspoons of peroxide with a teaspoon of dishwasher powder and sprinkle this over the spot.

  • Use an old brush and work the powdery mix into the carpet.

  • Allow the carpet to dry then hoover any excess powder up.

  • If you notice that the cat urine smell still remains then you might need to repeat the process a few times.

  • If you cannot seem to get the horrible smell of cat pee out of your carpet you may need to use a commercial product that breaks down the enzymes in the urine.

  • After you have cleaned up the cat urine you will need to discover the cause of your cat peeing on the carpet.

  • Check that the litter tray is clean. If you have moved house recently then your cat may feel unsettled. If neither of these things is true then you will need to take your cat to the vet because it might be sick.
