A pet collar is useful for keeping your cat safe. Cat collars provide your pet with identification in case he ever gets lost. Making sure that a cat collar has been fitted properly is an important way of making sure that it cannot be harmful to your cat’s health. It also ensures that it will not fall off for no reason. See the following guide on fitting cat collars properly.

    •    Before you can start looking for cheap cat collars, you will need to take a measurement to know what size cat collar to buy. Separate the hair from around the cat’s neck and use a flexible measuring tape around the neck. Take the measurement.

    •    Once you have the reading, add an inch. This extra measurement ensures that the cheap cat collars are not too tight, but will not be too loose either.

    •    Now find a pet collar for your cat with this measurement. If you have a cat that has not fully grown yet (under 12 months of age), get a cat collar that allows between 2 and 3 inches of space so that he can grow into it. Most cheap cat collars are adjustable.

    •    Place the cat collar around the cat’s neck to see the fit. You should be able to fit a couple of fingers between the collar and the cat. This shows that the collar fit properly.

    •    Now pull on the pet collar to test its safety feature. Safety collars should be designed to break away if you tug sharply on them. If your cat gets caught on something, you need to know that he can escape the cat collar easily to get home safely. If it does not come off in this instance, you may want to consider another option.
