Having a missing cat can be extremely distressing; finding a cat which is lost can be difficult and very stressful. If you have a lost cat then this article should give you some top tips on looking for a cat.

    Finding a Cat

    • Walk slowly calling your cat’s name.

    • You should expect your lost cat to stay hidden but listen out for cries and whimpers.

    • If your cat has a favourite toy or treats then bring it outside and make familiar sounds like shaking the treats or squeezing the toy.

    • Cats like to hide under cars and rubbish bins so look carefully around these items.

    • If you have recently moved house then your cat might be distressed and run off. Make sure when finding a cat that you look thoroughly in your new area and back where you lived previously.

    • Make some leaflets and posters with your cat’s picture on it which you can post through doors or put up in local shops.

    • Some local newspapers will have lost and found sections; check here daily in case someone has found your cat.

    • Check your local animal shelters and catteries.

    • Put a cardboard box outside with familiar smelling objects inside, check the box regularly at night and early in the morning.

    • Once you have found your cat make sure it wears a collar with your address and telephone number on it so if it happens again your cat can be returned to you safely.
