Should the Persian cat be shaved in summer?

Articlecat health and wellbeingFriday 15 July 2011

Proper preparation of your cat is important to fully enjoy holidays and summer with your kitty. However, remember not to exaggerate! Turning your cat nude will not help to cool your feline down and make your cat feel better. Shaving your cat might probably have no effect on cooling it down but might make your feline depressed! Keep on reading this article to find out more.

If you are getting confused on how to keep your cat cool during summer months you should read the article here and shaving your Persian kitten should be the last thing you do. First of all cats are very proud of their fur and getting rid of it might make them depressed. What is more, cats have whiskers integrated into their fur and if you shave them they will not grow back fully for up to seven years. Whiskers are extremely important because they allow cats to feel things properly.

Whiskers are known as "tactile hairs" or vibrissae and just like hair and nails, they do fall out and then are replaced. However, they should never be cut or trimmed! It definitely would not hurt your cat but probably would make your feline quite confused. The whiskers help cats to judge whether they can fit through gap and a certain space or not.
