You Won’t Believe How Thula The Maine Coon Helps A Girl With Autism!
WARNING: Severe tear-jerker ahead! Iris is a 5 year old girl from Leicestershire who was diagnosed with autism in 2011. Her parents encouraged her to paint as a way to get her out of the isolation imposed by her condition and incredibly such produced such beautiful paintings that they sold for thousands of pounds. Most incredible of all, though, is the bond with her best friend Thula - a one year old Maine Coon! Pass the tissues please….
Iris struggled with communication , social interaction and expressing affection but since being introduced to her feline best friend Iris is showing signs of becoming outwardly social. The two have become inseparable and do everything as a team!
Thula sits quietly for hours whilst she watches Iris paint, and encourages her to take a bath by joining her (the ultimate cat sacrifice!).
Thula and Iris nap, go in the car together and even ride bikes together!
Thula even joins in with Iris’ home-schooling - and is essential for keeping the 5 year old engaged and happy.
“Thula has lowered her daily anxieties in life and keeps Iris calm,” says Iris’ mother. “But equally has the effect of encouraging her to be more social. She will talk more to Thula, saying little phrases like ‘sit cat.'”
