Cat chased by canine mascot after gatecrashing basketball court
It's instinct for dogs to chase cats – even, it appears, if the bungling canine in question is just an oversized suit.
A curious take on this age-old pursuit occurred after this cheeky stray was pursued by basketball mascot Donny the Dog.
The cat found itself the centre of attention when it emerged during a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Hasharon in Israel.
As Maccabi attacked their opponents’ end of the Zisman Arena in the eastern city of Ramat Gan, the black and white intruder wandered into the middle of the court.
It appeared startled before making its way towards the cheerleaders gathered by the side of the court.
Then, with the scent in the nostrils of his suit, the Maccabi mascot Donny the Dog gave chase. He dived desperately and, several times, ineptly in a bid to capture the feline trespasser.
But the cat was able to evade the flailing mascot and scurried underneath a temporary stand.
As yet, it is not known where the cat came from but strays have become a problem in the country in recent years.
Its British counterpart is a tabby dubbed ‘Shanks’, who shot to fame after running onto the Anfield pitch during Liverpool’s Premier League match with Tottenham Hotspur in February.
After being cheered by thousands of fans it evaded Tottenham goalie before it was eventually captured by a member of the Anfield staff.
