Every Saturday we run a special feature on a rescue cat looking for a loving home. Today we have a very special appeal for Coco - a shy cat at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home aims to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. They reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners; when they can’t do this they care for them until new owners can be found for them. They also work hard to educate the public about responsible pet ownership including microchipping, neutering and training. This includes educational talks and visits to schools and organisations, events, and publications. They help care for over 9000 cats & dogs a year - including Coco; a domestic medium-hair who is currently residing in their Brands Hatch centre.

Coco is a complete stunner of a girl but unfortunately is a very under socialised and nervous cat, who spends most of her time curled up in bed. That said, if you are confident but slow and demonstrate a bit of patience with her she has moments where she loves a good fuss. Battersea know this because sometimes she will raise her bottom in the air, dribble and purr when being stroked.

Unfortunately Coco seems to be a bit forgetful (staff at Battersea have even nick-named her 'Dory' after the scatty fish from 'Finding Nemo') - it seems that even once you have made friends with her, the moment you go away she forgets. As a result you will have to be patient and prepared to start the whole process again with Coco. She needs calm, quiet and most of all patient owners who will encourage her to be braver and come out of her shell.

Coco is looking for an indoor-only home, with no children or other pets. The advantage of her being an indoor cat is that she can live in pretty much any location. Ideally, Coco would love a spare room that she can call her own to be settled into initally - having acess to this room for as long as possible would give Coco a 'safe' place to retreat to.

Coco requires a very special family that will put in the time with her. In return, you will see your compassion and patience giving her the confidence to come out of her shell, which will be immensely rewarding.

If you think that you could help Coco please contact Battersea on 08435 094444 or email them at [email protected] Coco's reference number is 303799.
