A unique national service has been launched to aid the plight of animals in rescue centres desperately seeking new homes.

Sussex-based Animal Icap (Animal Integrated Community Acess Point ) is described as a community alliance aimed at highlighting the plight of animal rehoming.

The free online service promotes the work of rescue centres across the country while advertising their fund raising activities and offering the public a chance to register as volunteers at their local rescue.  It also allows the public to search for the animal of their choice by region.

Animal Icap is the brainchild of businesswomen Julie Karimi and Melanie Jarvis-Vaughan. Together the two entrepreneurs have a combined experience of over 40 years working in the animal welfare sector.

Melanie Jarvis-Vaughan said:  "Rehoming any animal, in particular equines is a big commitment so a dedicated equine sharers page has been created to help people get back into equestrianism by sharing the expense, commitment, experience and passion."

Julie Karimi added: "This is an innovative project to give maximum exposure for smaller animal rescues to highlight the animals that need rehoming and to help them financially by nationally advertising their fundraising events.

“With unemployment as such a high our volunteer page will also give opportunities to help get people back into the workforce through voluntary experiences.”
