Mystery of the barking cat resolved

The YouTube video showing a cat barking through an open window and the kitten, when caught red handed by its owner, started meowing instantaneously has got over 4mln views. But, how is it possible that the cat barks like a dog?

According to the livescience.com and a leading pet behaviour expert this phenomenon is quite common among cats as the arrangement of the cat's larynx, trachea and diaphragm is similar to a dog's. If cats operate the machinery in the right way, it will produce a noise that is similar to barking. Cats may learn the barking noise from the dogs by imitating. Probably the cat was answering to the dog that was barking outside the house. 

Now, why the cat from the video stopped barking? Definitely it was not because he was embarrassed (the cats do not know they are not supposed to bark!). The mystery is that while turning its head, the energy going out through its airway reduced and the bark turned into a meow.
