A 12-year-old boy has been charged with animal cruelty in Suffolk (Virginia, USA) after abusing a 7-week-old kitten. The animal after suffering serious injuries is now recovering and being given medical attention.

According to the Suffolk Animal Control, some children were playing with the kitten when one of them, a 12-year-old boy, grabbed the pet, threw it against a wall and started hitting with a stick. When he pulled out a knife and started threatening that he would cut the kitten, another child approached him and smacked the knife out of his hand.

The children who were playing with the kitten thought it was dead and they put it in a box and left it. When Animal Control officer found the box in the grass, he realised the cat was alive.

According to the police the kitten suffered from a broken leg and bruises to the lungs and abdomen. The 12-year-old was charged with one count of misdemeanor cruelty.
