According to the Animal Control officers, the cats have been poisoned. The cats were strays, but the residents of The Hammocks knew them by name as they were coming to their house for years and had their bowls with food and water. Miami Herald said that the number of stray cats increased after people had moved away after Hurricane Andrew. Last week, the cat lovers from the Hammocks noticed that there were dead cats in their yards and others were dying on the street. The cats' bodies were moved out of the street, and other cats with poisoning syndromes were taken to the emergency.
Animal Control will perform a necropsy in order to determine what killed the cats.
