    Cat eye removed after owner's neglect

    Betty, the tabby cat, died shortly after having the emergency operation on an infected eye. Cat’s owner admitted to have caused unnecessary suffering to an animal through neglect.

    The 17-year-old cat went blind in the infected eye and had to have its left eye removed. The cat later died in pain in an RSPCA officer’s van.

    The woman was given a conditional discharge and a £50 fine after magistrates accepted she was normally a loving pet owner.The RSPCA recovered less than half of its £3,100 costs.
