Fewer cats allowed in homes
The city of Beaumont is taking steps to reduce the number of cats that residents are allowed to have at home from nine to four.
Police Chief Frank Coe said at a City Council meeting Tuesday, May 15, that the council would be cleaning up some language in the city’s animal care ordinance. He said someone recently brought it to the city’s attention that in Beaumont, people are allowed to have nine cats. He said this was inadvertent.
“Personally, I would have zero cats,” he joked, eliciting exclamations from some members of the audience.
